Cyber-Hobby has a new Sikorsky SH-3 member. It is a slightly newer SH-3H type. This twin-engine craft was used primarily for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) by the US Navy (USN), and it was an upgrade of the SH-3G utility helicopter. Improvements over the SH-3G included specialist ASW equipment (AN/AQS-13 or AQS-18 active sonar, and an ASQ-81 magnetic anomaly detector), Marconi surveillance radar and airframe modifications. A total of 163 SH-3G Sea Kings were updated to SH-3H configuration so the helicopters could hunt enemy submarines.
As with all previous 1/72 scale plastic models from Cyber-Hobby, this kit is well designed and cleverly engineered to produce maximum modeling enjoyment. The fuselage is correctly proportioned and is furnished with a full level of detail both inside and outside. The cabin doors can be displayed open, allowing a tantalizing view of the helicopter’s interior, which includes the new radio/display equipment, two seats for the systems operators, plus the active dipping sonar device (AN/AQS-13 or AN/AQS-18). The foldable rotor blades are made to true scale thickness too. This kit features brand new parts such as the bottom of the fuselage, buoyancy sponsons, landing gear and the underbelly MK46 torpedo. With appropriate Cartograf decal markings for several USN squadrons available in the box, this SH-3H is ready to hunt submarines!
