The Panzer-Lehr-Division was one of the most elite units of the Wehrmacht during WWII. Formed in 1943 from a cadre of training troops (lehr means “teach”), this armored division was ready to repel the Allied invasion of Western Europe. This meant it was well equipped with fighting vehicles, although the formation was almost completely annihilated at Caen and the Falaise pocket. One of the vehicles the division was equipped with was the Jagdpanzer IV tank destroyer. Based on the Panzer IV chassis, this vehicle had a casemate instead of a turret. A 7.5cm PaK 39 L/48 gun was fitted inside the fighting compartment on early-production vehicles because the planned PaK 42 L/70 cannon wasn’t ready in time. Production commenced in January 1944, with the Pak 42 coming on stream in August of that year.
Cyber-Hobby has come up with a perfect combination for its next Orange Box release. This set pitches together a 1/35 scale Jagdpanzer IV A-0 with a set of Panzer-Lehr figures. The Jagdpanzer IV A-0 represents a pre-production vehicle with the shorter L/48 gun with muzzle brake, and it’s distinguished by rounded edges on the front of the fighting compartment. The 1/35 Jagdpanzer IV is accurately molded, and it comes with decals depicting the Panzer-Lehr-Division as it fought in Normandy after the D-Day landings. The tank destroyer is enhanced by having Magic Tracks available. There are four figures included in the set, with the soldiers conferring about how best to deploy their vehicles. This Jagdpanzer and Lehr Division combination is a perfect match!
