About the Arado Ar 234:
The Arado Ar 234 Blitz was the world's first operational jet powered bomber,
built by the Arado company in the closing stages of World War II. In the field
it was used almost entirely in the reconnaissance role, but in its few uses
as a bomber it proved to be impossible to intercept.
In January 1945 staff at Arado began development of a night and all-weather fighter based on the Ar 234C. However, the project was plagued by chronic shortages of such essential items as turbojet engines and radars right up to the end of the war, and no dedicated night fighter saw combat action. The Ar 234P-4 was the fourth prototype, being powered by a pair of powerful turbojet engines, which would have given it an estimated top speed of 450mph (725km/h).
