With a huge splash the front ramp of the LCM(3) dropped into the sea. The driver of the M4 Sherman gunned the engine and it clattered down the ramp and into the raging surf. The tracks scrabbled for grip on the pebbly seafloor, and it gradually ploughed its way towards the beach. Bullets pinged against its armor plates and artillery rounds straddled the American tank as it entered the conflagration of D-Day.
Such a dramatic scene can now be recreated in 1/72 scale thanks to a new kit from Dragon. D-Day, the largest seaborne invasion of the time, took place on 6 June 1944. It involved 850,000 Allied troops forging a bridgehead on the Normandy coast. Item No. 7367 features an M4 Sherman tank fitted out for these D-Day amphibious landings. The M4 featured a Continental R975 radial gasoline engine and had a 75mm gun installed in the turret. This is the very first M4 kit in Dragon’s 1/72 scale range, and of special note is the deep wading kit installed on the engine deck, which allowed the tank to drive through the surf onto the beachhead. To fit the deep wading kit, a completely new upper hull has been produced. The wading kit itself is made from photo-etched parts to replicate the sheet metal used on the original. The kit’s turret is also new, benefited from newly tooled cast-in cheek armor. Relive the greatest amphibious invasion of all time with this remarkable new M4 variant from Dragon!
