The Leopard 2 is a main battle tank developed by Krauss-Maffei AG, now Krauss-Maffei
Wegmann (KMW), of Munchen, Germany. It is widely recognized as one of the most
advanced MBTs in the world. While the A5 comprises the backbone of Germany's
tank forces, it is also used in The Netherlands and Sweden.
The first Leopard 2 A5 were officially delivered to the German Army School
on 30 November 1995. The most significant change to the hull of the Leopard
2 A5 is the new driver's hatch, which is now electronically operated and slides
to the right to open. Other improvements for the A5 include steel road wheels,
upgraded armor and GPS capabilities.
