Perhaps the most famous of all German tanks of WWII was the formidable Tiger I. With a reputation as fierce as its name suggests, this heavy tank introduced into service in August 1942 stalked and destroyed enemy armored vehicles across numerous battlefields in the latter half of the war. Despite its fame, a surprisingly small total of just 1,347 Tiger I tanks was built up till August 1944. The Tiger I was the first German tank to mount the deadly 8.8cm KwK 36 cannon, and boasting armor that was 120mm thick in places, it weighed in at a massive 62.7 tons. This combination of firepower and armor protection resulted in a creditable ratio of 5.74 enemy tank kills to each Tiger loss.
Dragon Armor's newest 1/72 scale model (Item No.60544) depicts one of these mighty Tiger I tanks, in this case a Late-Production version. It is presented in the markings of s.Pz.Abt.510, a unit formed in June 1944. After being equipped with its complement of Tiger Is, s.Pz.Abt.510 was sent to the Eastern Front. It fought in East Prussia and Kurland until the end of the war. The unit's distinctive standing bear marking inside a shield is applied to the front of the hull. This exciting Dragon Armor item has a readymade Zimmerit coating applied with a master's touch to give a fine scale appearance. It is also adorned in a typical three-color camouflage scheme. Armor model lovers won't "bear" to be without this Tiger I in their collections!
