The German Panther was one of the best tanks to see service in WWII, designed from the outset to regain combat superiority over Soviet tanks on the Eastern Front. It represented an ideal balance of firepower, mobility and protection. The final production version was the Ausf.G, which featured improvements such as a simplified hull to speed up production. Dragon Armor has just released a brand new Panther Ausf.G that is differentiated by featuring steel road wheels. The Gummigefederten Stahllaufrollen (steel road wheels with internal rubber cushions) was fitted to a series of 24 Panther G tanks instead of the regular rubber-rimmed road wheel.
The 1/72 scale model represents a tank from Pz.Div. Mu"ncheberg fighting in Berlin as the Third Reich collapsed in flames. This division had been formed on 8 March 1945, and despite being an ad hoc formation, it employed modern armored vehicles such as the Panther. Pz.Div. Mu"ncheberg was eventually encircled in the German capital and it disintegrated under heavy Soviet attack. The tank is finished in a late-war camouflage scheme that has been beautifully airbrushed by skilled craftsmen. In keeping with this period, there is a paucity of tactical markings on the vehicle. It has also received a judicious amount of weathering to enhance its appearance. This model has been accurately reproduced, and it represents something different thanks to its steel road wheels.
